Claire Hewitt is a singer, Celtic harpist, drummer, dancer, storyteller and music therapist, and apart from her regular performances runs workshops, courses and team-building seminars.
When Claire was recording her first solo album Duanag (released in June 2004) she asked Genie for a series of photo sessions at various locations for use in her CD packaging. This turned out to be the start of a wonderful collaboration which continues to this day.
When Genie suggested to Claire that she should consider creating her own front cover for the new release, Claire was inspired to sew and embroider from silk the object which was to become the background of the image which you can see in the thumbnail on the right (Cover for Duanag). It was made to the exact proportions which Genie had supplied, and which she duly lit and photographed in a manner which retained the vibrant colours of Claire's handiwork.
At this stage it became clear to Claire that Genie should also design the packaging for her new CD.
As Claire was just starting her new venture (in music and therapy as a sole trader) she was also in need of stationery. And a website. We decided to use Claire's starfish design from the CD cover, for the stationery and website logo, as it is an important image for Claire and has consequently become a part of her branding. The colours used are equally important to Claire as a Buddhist, and recur in the stationery and website. Claire appreciates that these things are not only possible but also affordable when her web and graphic design are kept under one roof.
Since then Claire has needed flyers for her workshops: Finding Your Voice — a one-day workshop in cooperation with Jamie Jauncey; and Weaving With Sound — a fortnightly evening event to help people to find their true voice (see thumbnail image on the right), as well as posters for her concerts.
